  1. 1. Simulation-based discrimination of Crab pulsar models with XL-Calibur

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Fysik

    Författare :Dennis Åkerström; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Astroparticle Physics; Astrophysics; Detector Physics; Simulation; Theoretical Physics; Engineering Physics; Pulsar models; Crab pulsar; Astropartikelfysik; Astropartikelfysik; Detektorfysik; Simulering; Teoretisk Fysik; Teknisk Fysik; Pulsar modeller; Krabbpulsaren;

    Sammanfattning : Polarisation of X-ray light is being investigated with polarimeters to extend the borders of what can be observed. Distant compact objects, such as pulsars, that are to small on the sky to be analysed with imaging can be investigated by analysing the polarisation of the emitted light. This can reveal physics previously hidden by their small nature. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Fysik

    Författare :Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pursuits of the body: Sensory realities in Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart

    Kandidat-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för språk och litteraturer

    Författare :Rebecca Sonesson; [2023-07-07]
    Nyckelord :Horror; Clive Barker; gothic literature; The Hellbound Heart; literary studies; body horror; new materialism; splatterpunk; the weird;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how corporeality is represented within horror literature, and if the depicted corporeality can be read in a more material way rather than in a metaphorical way. By using the character of Frank from Clive Barker’s novel The Hellbound Heart, the relation between representations of corporeality and physical materiality is examined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Localized and extended states in finite-sized mosaic Wannier-Stark lattices

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Författare :Emrah Tortumlu; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Applied Physics; Condensed matter physics; quantum technology; quantum nanophotonics; localization; mobility edge; phase transition; Tillämpad Fysik; Kondenserade materiens fysik; kvantteknologi; kvantnanofotonik; lokalisering; fasövergång;

    Sammanfattning : Anderson localization occurs when an otherwise conductive solid becomes insulatingdue to a sufficiently large degree of disorder in the medium. The electron band energy(as a function of disorder) at which this transition between extended and localizedelectron states occur is called the mobility edge (ME) and is energy-dependent only in3-dimensional systems. 5. 5. Exploring electroweak symmetry breaking in the scale-invariant Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Erik Rustas; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Two-Higgs-Doublet Models; 2HDM; Scale-invariance; Baryogenesis; BSM; Baryon Asymmetry; Coleman-Weinberg Potential; Theoretical Particle Physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the properties of a general scale-invariant Two-Higgs-Doublet Model and its phenomenological consequences with focus on the scalar sector. The concept suggests that introducing more CP-violation, both spontaneous and explicit, may make it possible to meet the Sakharov conditions and account for the Universe's baryon asymmetry. LÄS MER
