    Sammanfattning : The study focused on finding out the challenges of implementing sustainable tourism development strategies and policies in Uganda, with a view of generating information on knowledge of the sustainable development challenges among stakeholders, and how best the challenges of their implementation can be addressed to achieve sustainability in the tourism sector. It is motivated by the fact that, despite the Ugandan government's efforts to build tourism as a major economic earner of the country, the sector still yields uncertain fluctuating and fewer returns. The case study investigates how a community of self-settled South Sudanese refugees living in the northern Ugandan city of Arua copes with the challenges of self-settlement, self-reliance and recognition.
