  1. 1. Optimal foraging in an Arctic herbivore : How does the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) respond to seasonal changes from summer through autumn of the Arctic tundra?

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Emma Limosa Djurberg; [2023]
    Nyckelord :foraging behaviour; phenology; ungulate; Arctic; Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus;

    Sammanfattning : Foraging decisions of large herbivores can be affected by many factors and have great effect on both above- and below-ground ecosystems. Here, I determine to which degree temporal (seasonality), or spatial (habitat) factors influence the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) and asses if small-scale foraging behaviour correlates with an animals’ patch residence time. 2. 2. Day or night? Testing thermal imaging technology for estimating ungulate population densities in southern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre

    Författare :Julia Nowak; [2023]
    Nyckelord :monitoring; ungulates; thermal imaging; population density; distance sampling; Dama dama;

    Sammanfattning : To be able to make a proper judgement and choose the best management or conservation solution when working with populations of wild ungulates or any other wildlife, it is important to obtain good estimates of population densities. Inventing or improving wild animal monitoring methods is a key to protect what may be endangered or to avoid human-wildlife conflicts. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Wild boar and roe deer in conflict? : an analysis of interspecific interactions under different wild boar densities

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Nina Eileen Long; [2023]
    Nyckelord :feeding displacement; generalized additive models; interference competition; wild boar; roe deer;

    Sammanfattning : Roe deer and wild boar are both highly successful species of cervid found across much of Europe, and while similarities exist between them, to what extent do wild boar impact the daily activity pattern of roe deer at feeding sites? While a few studies explore interspecific interactions between ungulate species in Sweden, only a little research has been done on how wild boar and roe deer interact. This study aims to minimize the gap in knowledge surrounding these two species and the way they interact. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Wild boar feeding site effects on targeted and non-targeted species

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Emma Engvall; [2022]
    Nyckelord :artificial feeding; baiting; establishment; rooting; diversity; species richness;

    Sammanfattning : Wild boar (Sus scrofa) is an ungulate species that is increasing in Europe and Sweden, and with that causing conflicts and problems in agriculture. Wild boar are omnivores and are often rooting in the ground to find food items. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stand characteristics and temperature’s effect on bilberry availability and quality

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Jennifer Chaimungkhun Johansson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :bilberry; vaccinium myrtillus; nutrition; maturity classes; temperature loggers;

    Sammanfattning : Stand characteristics is a crude description of a forest and provides general knowledge of what the forest looks like, for example plant composition and site productivity. Factors and measurements like tree canopy and basal area affects the near ground microclimate through temperature regulation, light intake, and available soil nutrient. LÄS MER
