1. Elemental variability in tree-rings as indicator for climate change : a case study on beech and oak trees at the Laacher See, Germany
Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografiSammanfattning : The aim of this study was to contribute to the comprehension of the connection of element uptake in trees at the Laacher See in Germany and climatic parameters on different time scales. Understanding the relationship of certain elements in trees and temperature might enable the assignment of extraordinary high peaks in the elemental concentration, which cannot be explained by temperature, to another process as CO2 degassing of the mofettes, which are relics of the volcanic past of the lake. 2. Mercury in Fossil Leaves as a Proxy for Tracking Large Igneous Province Volcanism
Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : During some mass extinctions, usually minor, world oceans also underwent anoxic to euxinic conditions, events called Oceanic anoxic events (OAEs). Such an event unfolded during the Toarcian (∼183 Ma), called the T-OAE which is suggested to have been caused by Karoo-Ferrar Large Igneous Province (LIP) volcanism. LÄS MER
3. Oolites from the Arabian platform: Archives for the aftermath of the end-Triassic mass extinction
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionenSammanfattning : The end-Triassic mass extinction (ETME) which occurred around 201 Ma is known as one of “the big five” mass extinction events of the Phanerozoic eon. Its effects were most severe on marine ecosystems, resulting in a global decline of invertebrate taxa and the complete extinction of the conodonts. LÄS MER
4. Klimat och väder i Nordatlanten-regionen under det senaste årtusendet
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionenSammanfattning : One of the most important areas in climatology today is the development of climate models. To evaluate how well a particular climate model is working it is compared with climate reconstructions based on proxy-data, which is indirect climate information that can be obtained from climate archives. 5. Assessing the biodiversity crisis within the Triassic-Jurassic boundary interval using redox sensitive trace metals and stable carbon isotope geochemistry
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionenSammanfattning : Around the Triassic-Jurassic-Boundary time interval, a severe mass extinction event occurred, which has been associated to volcanism of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP). Significant amounts of greenhouse gases as carbon dioxide (CO2) or methane (CH4) and other volatiles are suggested to have been released into the atmosphere, leading to global warming with subsequent impact on the biosphere.
