  1. 1. Characterization of a novel bacteriumoriginating from a biogas process

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på grundnivå, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Louise Welén; [2023]
    Nyckelord :biogas; ammonia-tolerance; mesophilic; characterization; bacterium;

    Sammanfattning : An anaerobic bacterium, isolated from an enrichment culture originating from a biogas reactor operating at high ammonia conditions, was characterised via various tests. An analysis of the 16S rRNA gene confirmed that the closest relative was Desulfotomaculum halophilum with 92,5 % similarity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Isolation of an ammonia-tolerant syntrophic butyrate-oxidizing bacterium originating from a thermophilic biogas digester

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Malin Tiefensee; [2023]
    Nyckelord :thermophilic; ammonia-tolerant; syntrophic butyrate-oxidizing bacterium;

    Sammanfattning : Syntrophic relationships between fatty acid degrading bacteria and hydrogenotrophic methanogens are important for a well-functioning anaerobic degradation process during biogas production from organic waste material. This is particularly important in biogas processes fed protein-rich material as their degradation gives rise to high levels of ammonia, which inhibits many microorganisms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stabilizing biogas processes at high ammonia : effects of acetate pulse-feeding on the microbial population

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Oscar Dolk; [2020]
    Nyckelord :biogas; anaerobic digestion; ammonia inhibition; acetate enrichment;

    Sammanfattning : This study investigated the problem of ammonia inhibition in biogas reactors, commonly occurring when protein rich substrates are used in anaerobic digestion processes. Ammonia inhibition is one of the foremost causes of failure in anaerobic digestion, leading to process instability, with symptoms commonly expressed as; reduction in biogas produced, decreased methane content in the gas and accumulation of volatile fatty acids. 4. 4. Behavioural responses of wolves (Canis lupus) and dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) to the odour of mammalian blood and to a blood odour component

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Shannon Stubbs; [2019]
    Nyckelord :olfaction; dog; wolf; domestication; blood; blood odour component; enrichment; olfactory behaviour. behavioural responses;

    Sammanfattning : Domestication is accompanied by marked changes in the phenotype of the domesticated form of a species relative to its wild ancestor. The domestic dog and its wild ancestor, the wolf, are a widely used model system to study the effects of domestication on cognition and behaviour. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Behavioural responses of Amur tigers (Panthera tigris altaica) and African lions (Panthera leo) to conspecific urine and to a component of tiger marking fluid

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Biologi

    Författare :Joakim Cederlund; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Tiger; Lion; Olfaction; Communication; Enrichment; Behaviour;

    Sammanfattning : Olfactory signals are an important means of social communication among felids. However, not much is known about how individual volatiles of body-borne odours influence behavioural responses. 2-acetyl-1pyrroline has recently been identified as a characteristic component of tiger marking fluid, while being absent from lion marking fluid.
