  1. 1. Using biological conversion to increase the value of short-chain fatty acids by mixed cultures

    Master-uppsats, Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Författare :Elisabeth Beach; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Ethanol; Mixed culture; Volatile fatty acids; Anaerobic digestion;

    Sammanfattning : The development of anaerobic digestion processes has gained recognition for its potential for producing volatile fatty acids alongside bio-alcohols. In addition, the fermentation process and the products produced from biological fermentation have the possibility to overcome the abundance of organic waste in our society, which is potentially immensely rich in untapped valuable potential products. 2. 2. The effects of sweeteners on the intestinal microbiota among individuals with eating disorders

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry

    Författare :Nellie Nyd; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Microbiota; sweeteners; eating disorders; bulimia nervosa; binge-eating disorder; anorexia nervosa; depression; psychopathology; bacteria; microbes; archaeon;

    Sammanfattning : In today's society, the number of people who fall ill with various eating disorders is growing at a furious pace, the queues for treatment are getting longer at the same time as younger people are affected. In addition, it is a common phenomenon with ineffective treatments, where setbacks and relapses are common. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Crystallization, optimization, and crystal structure determination of ligands in complex with galectin-8N

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Författare :George Larsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; Structural Biochemistry; Galectin-8; Protein Crystallization; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the protein “galectin-8N” which is a lectin protein that takes part in several physiological functions such as inflammation, autophagy, cell migration, and more. The project has three objectives: to observe and increase the reproducibility of crystallization of two variants (wildtype and mutant) of the human protein galectin-8N and to analyze the binding site when three different novel ligands are each inserted. 4. 4. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Författare :Arvid Lindmark; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Beer; Hops; Thiols; 3MHA; 4MMP; Food Technology; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 5. 5. Generell metod för analys av pesticider med HS-SPME i kombination med GC-MS : Möjligheten att identifiera pesticider i känd lösning och i förgiftningsfall

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Samuel Eliasson Heino; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry; Pesticides; Intoxication; Limit of detection; headspace-SPME; EPA 8151; Detection; Derivatization; Separation;

    Sammanfattning : This study focuses on a general method that has been developed for the identification of both polar- and nonpolar pesticidespolar pesticides in a known solution from EPA 8151 Herbicide acid mix by Merck including the ordered non-polar pesticide Prosulfocarb. The EPA-solution contains 16 analytes that has been completely identified when derivatized and spiked in acetone. LÄS MER
