1. Production of natural pigments from A. platensis grown on wastewater from local treatment facility.
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologi; Lunds universitet/BioteknikSammanfattning : Although microalgae have been considered for the biological treatment of wastewater since the 1950’s, their potential to efficiently remove pollutants from various streams remains largely untapped and is yet to be utilized at large scale. The production of algal biomass and extraction of high-value compounds has, however, become increasingly popular with large scale farms and biorefineries around the world producing many promising alternatives to petroleum-based products and processes. 2. Mercury accumulation in lake sediments on different time scales – the influence of algal primary production
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskapSammanfattning : The aim of this work is to test the proposed approach of algal scavenging as a driver of sediment mercury (Hg) on different time scales and to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of Hg accumulation in lake sediments. A 3000-year sediment record from Nylandssjön in northern Sweden was analysed for this purpose, as well as a 20-year sediment record from the seasonal sediment traps of this lake. LÄS MER
3. The effects of eutrophication and browning on prey availability and performance of the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic ResourcesSammanfattning : Shallow coastal areas often have high productivity and diversity, in part due to the high availability of light and nutrients. At the same time, they are exposed to multiple environmental pressures, such as browning and eutrophication. LÄS MER
4. Effects of microbial community coalescence in lake water at ice break-off
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå,Sammanfattning : The period of ice break-off in spring is a key event for many biogeochemical processes in lakes globallly. The biogeochemical processes occurring at ice break-off have the potential of influencing characteristics of lakes throughout spring and summer, including algal blooms and greenhouse gas emission. 5. Lake Victoria - Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Stable Isotope (δ13C) comparison between lake and catchment sediments
Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Tema MiljöförändringSammanfattning : Lake Victoria situated in East Africa faces an acute problem with eutrophication. Many reasons like agricultural production, industrialization, anthropogenic processes, the introduction of species, and economic activities have caused a stress to the overall well-being of the lake.
