  1. 1. Testing aerosol vertical profiling methods with portable instruments on unmanned and manned aircraft

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Ellen Grace Soroka; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; Aerosols; Vertical Profile; Black Carbon; PM2.5; Nanoparticles; UAV; Drone; Master degree thesis; 30 credits in Atmospheric Science Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis employed several portable sensors on board an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and manned aircraft in order to test new methods of measuring vertical profiles of aerosol particles and contribute to knowledge of aerosol distributions in the atmosphere. More data in this area is required to improve atmospheric modelling and future climate scenarios. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Snow-graupel collisions in clouds: a newly derived formulation for breakup of single crystals

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Victor Craig van der Brug; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Secondary Ice Production; Ice Cloud Number Concentration; Cloud Ice; Ice-Ice Collisions; Snow Crystal; Atmospheric Science Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The observed and well-known discrepancy between concentrations of ice nucleating particles in the environment and the concentrations of ice particles in clouds show that there are additional ‘secondary’ processes enhancing the concentrations of ice particles. In present-day modelling of weather and climate, such processes are mostly overlooked and thus a cause for uncertainty. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluating forest wildfire effect on tree increment patterns for boreonemoral forests in Sweden: A pilot study using remote sensing

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Joanna Eaton; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; Remote sensing; Sentinel-2A; Forest wildfires; dNBR; NDVI; dNDVI; Dendrochronology; Atmospheric science and biogeochemical cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The release of anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) has substantially increased the global mean surface air temperature. Increases in global mean surface air temperature will lead to warmer and drier conditions, promoting more frequent, long-lasting, intense forest wildfires. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Nora Kainz; [2021]
    Nyckelord :physical geography; ecosystem analysis; permafrost degradation; DOC; DOC concentration; stable isotope carbon signature; DOC quality; DOC degradation; Atmospheric Sciences and Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018. 5. 5. Nitrogen footprint vs. life cycle impact assessment methods : a comparison of the methods in a case study

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Erika Perming; [2012]
    Nyckelord :atmosfärvetenskap och biogeokemiska kretslopp; life cycle; footprint; physical geography; geography; nitrogen; impact assessment; atmospheric sciences and biogeochemical cycles; kväve; fotavtryck; livscykel: påverkansbedömning; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Kväveföreningar påverkar miljön på flera sätt när de kommer ut i luft och vatten, bland annat så sker övergödning och försurning men även ozonkoncentrationen kan påverkas i troposfären och stratosfären. Effekterna som kväve ger upphov till har inte fått mycket uppmärksamhet i klimat- och miljödebatter, istället har fokus varit koldioxidutsläppen. LÄS MER
