  1. 1. Pasture related characteristics and management strategies associated with udder health in farms with an automatic milking system : impact on somatic cell count and milking frequency

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Emma Laufors; [2022]
    Nyckelord :somatic cell count; milking interval; automatic milking system; udder health; heat stress; pasture strategies; preventative measures;

    Sammanfattning : Udder health plays a central role in the dairy industry and poor udder health can entail both negative economic and animal welfare consequences as well as increased antimicrobial use. The somatic cell count (SCC, a commonly used measurement of udder health) has been observed to increase during the summer season both in Sweden and in other countries. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Robotens roll i juverhälsoarbetet : en kvalitativ studie

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Ida Gillsjö; [2022]
    Nyckelord :mjölkrobot; automatiskt mjölkningssystem; AMS; juverhälsa; Kokontrollen; beslutsfattande;

    Sammanfattning : Mastit är ett stort problem hos mjölkkor, som leder till ökad kostnad och antibiotikaanvändning samt ger produktionsförluster och försämrad djurvälfärd. För att nå en mer hållbar produktion är det viktigt att utveckla strategier för att arbeta med juverhälsan. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Time budgets of dairy cows in cow-calf contact system with automatic milking

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Teresa Johansson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Dairy cows; Time budget; AMS; Cow-calf contact;

    Sammanfattning : Time budgets of dairy cattle are useful to determine the amount of time the cows can allocate to all the behaviours throughout the day. In an automatic milking system (AMS), time budgets are of interest as the individuals are able to choose how to spend the majority of their time, besides the time in the milking robot, and can be used to ensure adequate amounts of time are spent on essential behaviours, such as lying and eating. 4. 4. Effects of cow-calf contact on feed intake, milk production and energy balance in dairy cows in early lactation

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Carina Tufvesson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Cow-calf contact system; dairy cow; suckling; feed intake; feeding pattern; milk production; energy balance;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this study was to compare the production level, feed intake and energy balance in early lactation of non-suckled cows against cows in a cow-driven cow-calf contact (CCC) system. CCC systems have become interesting to evaluate as they are thought to provide a more natural behaviour for both the cow and calf, several studies have reported higher growth and better health in calves kept in these systems. 5. 5. Effects of weaning and two separation strategies on cow-calf pairs kept together in an automatic milking system until calves were four months old

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Kajsa Bruhn; [2021]
    Nyckelord :cow; calf; separation; weaning; vocalization; activity; stress;

    Sammanfattning : In the commercial dairy industry calves and cows are usually separated within 24 hours, however there is an increasing interest from the consumers to accommodate dairy cows and their calves together to improve animal welfare. Previous studies conclude that with later separation comes an increase in both calves and cows’ behavioral stress response after separation, however late separation has positive effects on the health and behavior of calves and cows.
