  1. 1. Petrography of impactites from the Dellen impact structure, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Robert Mroczek; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Dellen; Impact; structure; magnetite; apatite; shock waves; shock-metamorphic; features; Impactite; petrography; scanning electron microscope; SEM; geology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Identification and characterization of shock-metamorphic features in hypervelocity impact craters is important for our understanding of how shock waves interact with geologic materials and how impact craters form, which in turn is essential to our understanding of what role impact cratering played in the development of our solar system. Of particular interest are accessory minerals like apatite, which contains various volatiles that can affect the atmosphere of a body, or magnetite whose magnetic properties constitute a remote sensing indicator which allows us to study and understand the internal structures of distant bodies. 2. 2. Unravelling the timing and distribution of Paleoproterozoic dyke swarms in the eastern Kaapvaal Craton, South Africa

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Camilo Esteban Gaitan Valencia; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Kaapvaal; Mashining; black hills; dyke events; U-Pb geochronology; baddeleyite; geochemistry; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : I denna uppsats presenterar jag kristallisationsåldrar, petrografi och geokemisk sammansättning för diabasgångar och en lagergång i östra och sydöstra Kaapvaal kratonen, Sydafrika. Dessa nya resultat ger mer exakta och pålitliga resultat än tidigare dateringar för diabaser tillhörande den s.k. LÄS MER

  3. 3. New geochronological constraints on the Klipriviersberg Group: defining a new Neoarchean large igneous province on the Kaapvaal Craton, South Africa

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Joaen Stamsnijder; [2017]
    Nyckelord :LA-ICP-MS; U–Pb geochronology; ID-TIMS; baddeleyite; Klipriviersberg Group; LIP; South Africa; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, there has been a significant improvement in our ability to determine the ages of extensive short-lived magmatic events (large igneous provinces) dominated by rocks of mafic (silica-poor) compositions. This has been aided by targeting the magmatic feeders to these large igneous provinces (e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. U-Pb baddeleyite dating of intrusions in the south-easternmost Kaapvaal Craton (South Africa) : revealing multiple events of dyke emplacement

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Emilie Larsson; [2015]
    Nyckelord :U-Pb; baddeleyite; Kaapvaal Craton; mafic dykes; geochronology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This study presents U-Pb baddeleyite ages for five dolerite dykes and one sill in the Mesoarchean granitic basement of south-easternmost Kaapvaal Craton in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The oldest dyke is ENE-trending, and is dated to 2729 ± 5 Ma. LÄS MER

  5. 5. U-Pb geochronology of the Tsineng dyke swarm and paleomagnetism of the Hartley Basalt Formation, South Africa : evidence for two separate magmatic events at 1.93 – 1.92 and 1.88 – 1.84 Ga in the Kalahari craton

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Farnaz Alebouyeh Semami; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Kaapvaal; Tsineng; Hartley; baddeleyite; U-Pb geochronology; paleomagnetism; polar wander path; Kalahari; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Robust geochronology and well-constrained paleopoles are the main tools for paleogeographic reconstructions. Through the completion of so called barcode diagrams (matching of coeval events of mafic magmatism between blocks) and determination of the apparent polar wander paths, these studies provide a better understanding of the position of continents and supercontinents in the past.
