This thesis discusses the development of generative AI and if we can get an extended understanding of an AI image linked to an already existing place. The essay is divided into two parts, one which focuses on trying to decode the chosen AI image based on Roland Barthes semiotics and the second part which deals with the AI image and with means to put it in its historical context based on Aleida Assmann’s theory of cultural memory.
