  1. 1. Restoration strategies in boreal forests : prescribed burning and gap cutting effects on plant diversity and community composition

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Clara Espinosa Del Alba; [2020]
    Nyckelord :restoration ecology; boreal forest; fire; gap cutting; biodiversity; voluntary set-asides; vascular plants; bryophytes; forest management;

    Sammanfattning : The boreal biome is one of the largest in the world and their forests have been widely exploited for centuries. Consequently, it has suffered ecological simplification and loss of biodiversity. Under these circumstances passive conservation is no longer enough and active restoration techniques need to be tested. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prescribed burning in Sweden : an evaluation of structural outcomes from restoration oriented prescribed burns

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Virginia Hermanson; [2020]
    Nyckelord :prescribed burning; restoration; boreal forest; biodiversity burning; dead wood;

    Sammanfattning : The application of prescribed burning as a conservation measure is a growing trend in Fennoscandia to restore forest landscapes that have been heavily impacted by humans. Both intensive management for forestry and wildfire suppression altered the disturbances shaping boreal forests over the past centuries, which seen today are more homogenous, lacking dead wood and deciduous trees, and are in the successional process towards darker Picea abies (Norway spruce) dominated stands. 3. 3. The future of retention forestry : the historical legacy in stands and its impact on retention in the next generation

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Författare :Jan Lindblad; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Naturhänsyn; trakthyggesbruk; biodiversitet; ekologiska strukturer; skogsskötsel; landskap; kontinuitet; sekundärskog; bevarande; hotade arter; tree; Green; retention; clearcutting; biodiversity; ecological structures; management; landscape; continuity; secondary forests; conservation; threatened species;

    Sammanfattning : Today, around 55% of the world’s forests are already managed for timber pro-duction and other values. The need for actions concerning the fast decline in biodiversity was in the late 20th century met by the uprising of retention forest-ry. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bryr sig baggarna om skogen brinner? : jordlöpares respons på naturvårdsbränning och luckhuggning

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Richard Larsson; Maja Nilsson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :jordlöpare; Carabidae; biologisk mångfald; naturvård; naturvårdsbränning; luckhuggning;

    Sammanfattning : Mänsklig markanvändning har förändrat förekomsten och strukturen av habitat för en stor del av världens växter och djur. I Sverige är skogsbruket mycket omfattande, mekaniserat och effektivt vilket resulterar i att en stor del av landytan är direkt påverkad av skogsskötsel. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Will substituting fossil fuels with biofuels lead to a net reduction in CO2 emissions? : The case of district heating in Norrköping municipality

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Författare :Stina Ljungberg; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Forest residue; slash; bio-based economy; sustainable energy; Grot; biobaserad ekonomi; hållbar energi;

    Sammanfattning : With global warming and the international, national and local goals of reducing greenhouse gas net emissions, the phasing out of fossil fuels are of great importance. One energy source resulting in nearly no net emissions are biofuels. LÄS MER
