  1. 1. Hydraulic Modelling of Eurasian Beaver Structural Modifications: Implications for Evaluating their Contributions to Natural Flood Management in Scotland

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet

    Författare :Maja Christina Pitcairn; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Beaver reintroduction; Scotland; Flood risk; Natural flood management; Hydraulic modelling.; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The concurrent climate and biodiversity crises in Scotland necessitate the exploration of ecosystem-based adaptation to simultaneously address increased flood risk and the loss of native species. This research investigated the contributions of Eurasian beaver reintroductions to natural flood management in Scotland. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments as an organisational learning bridge for resilience building? A case study of Red Cross National Societies in the Caribbean

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet

    Författare :Gwenaëlle Delcourt; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Organisational learning; resilience; vulnerability and capacity assessments VCAs ; red cross red crescent; Disaster risk management; MMO; Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Adaptive capacity based on organisational learning (OL) is at once a critical imperative facing humanitarian organisations in their mission to save lives and support communities most at risk; and inherently evidenced as an enduring weakness over the past decades. Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (VCA) are community-based risk assessments established for their utility in supporting communities’ iterative learning. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Achieving Sustainability in Complex Multi-Tier Supply Chains: The Role of Supply Chain Visibility and Transparency in Responsible Sourcing of Critical Minerals

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Internationella miljöinstitutet

    Författare :Ekaterina Pikuleva; [2023]
    Nyckelord :critical minerals; supply chain transparency; supply chain visibility; sustainable supply chain management; traceability; Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : There is growing pressure from stakeholders on global corporations to ensure the sustainability of their products throughout the supply chain. At the same time, due to the high complexity and dynamism of supply chains, companies often do not know what actors operate in their supply chains beyond direct suppliers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Of Chaos And Clockworks : A Formal Criticism Of The Modern Sustainability Paradigm

    Master-uppsats, Högskolan i Gävle/Miljövetenskap

    Författare :Sebastian Arnström; [2023]
    Nyckelord :sustainability; sustainability science; complexity; complex adaptive systems; Earth system; Earth system science; resilience theory; the adaptive cycle; chaos theory; eco-theology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a critical review of two central theories in the modern sustainability paradigm – namely… (1) the theory that the Earth’s geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere form a complex adaptive system – the Earth system, and (2) the theory that all human activities are intrinsically dependent on, and constrained by, non-anthropogenic states and processes in the Earth system. The thesis explains the origins and the logic of these theories, and subjects them to formal, semi-formal and comparative criticism. LÄS MER

  5. 5. How do we get everybody at the table? Enhancing diversity in multi-stakeholder processes for landscape restoration.

    Magister-uppsats, Blekinge Tekniska Högskola/Institutionen för strategisk hållbar utveckling

    Författare :Ilse Hoekstra; Valentina Abalzati; Amanda Lanham; Paula Carramashi-Gabriel; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Diversity; Resilience; Landscape Restoration; Historically Absent Groups; Multi-Stakeholder Process;

    Sammanfattning : Global ecosystem degradation challenging ecological and social thresholds demands urgent responses that address systemically the complex interrelationships between humans and nature. To improve the adaptive capacity of the social systems and strengthen its resilience to respond to external challenges affecting landscapes, multi-stakeholder approaches for landscape restoration involving diverse actors expressing different perspectives are important.
