1. POSSIBLE TIMING OF THE TRANSITION FROM PRE-INDUSTRIAL TO INDUSTRIAL CLIMATE IN THE CENTRAL TO NORTHERN OF SWEDEN, BASED ON PROXY DATA FROM TREE-RINGS
Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Earth’s climate has varied through time, with orbital forcing as the most dominant force on the climate system the last million years, causing glacial-interglacial cycles. The last glacial period ended about 11.6 thousand years (kyr), ago and the last interglacial maximum around 6.5 kyr ago. LÄS MER
2. Elemental variability in tree-rings as indicator for climate change : a case study on beech and oak trees at the Laacher See, Germany
Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografiSammanfattning : The aim of this study was to contribute to the comprehension of the connection of element uptake in trees at the Laacher See in Germany and climatic parameters on different time scales. Understanding the relationship of certain elements in trees and temperature might enable the assignment of extraordinary high peaks in the elemental concentration, which cannot be explained by temperature, to another process as CO2 degassing of the mofettes, which are relics of the volcanic past of the lake. 3. Using blue light reflectance from high-resolution images (6000 dpi) of Scots pine tree rings to reconstruct three centuries of Scottish summer temperatures
Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknikSammanfattning : Advances in scanner technology have made it possible to obtain high resolution (6000 dpi) images of tree samples. Due to the images’ increased capability of resolving anatomical wood structures, the new technology could be of benefit to dendroclimatology. This study attempts to expand on Rydval et al. LÄS MER
4. Osteological Markers of Nutritional Stress on the Swedish Island of Öland: Physiological Effects of Environmental Fluctuations during the Scandinavian Iron Age
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/ArkeologiSammanfattning : The shift to agriculture as the main form of subsistence practice allowed past peoples the freedom and potential to exploit their natural and man-made environment for personal and societal gain. Decades of archaeological excavations conducted on the Swedish island of Öland have amassed a wealth of information regarding the subsistence and settlement patterns of Iron Age societies. LÄS MER
5. Minskad trädtillväxt under Lilla sitiden? : En dendroklimatologisk jämförelse mellan nutid och 1600-talet invid trädgränsen i norra Skandinavien
Kandidat-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografiSammanfattning : During the period called Little Ice Age (1400 ~ 1900) the climate of northern Europe was in an annual year-basis overall colder than it was before and after that period. The numbers of short, cold and rainy summers and long, bitter-cold winters where often repetitive under the approximately 500-years the period lasted. LÄS MER
