  1. 1. TRADITIONAL ECOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE IN AGRICULTURE FOR ADAPTATION/ RESILIENCE TO CLIMATE CHANGE: HIGH MOUNTAIN ASIA

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Dulani Lavanya Samarasekara Witharana; [2023-06-22]
    Nyckelord :climate change adaptation; resilient agroecosystems; Hindu Kush Himalaya; indigenous knowledge; traditional farming; traditional ecological knowledge;

    Sammanfattning : Mountain agricultural systems in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) are in a unique position to contribute to promoting nature-based solutions in adaptation and resilience to climate change since they are least impacted by the influence of commercial high-production agriculture. This study aims to explore currently available literature for evidence of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) based agriculture in the HKH region and analyse their contribution to region and location specific climate change adaptation. 2. 2. Bioeconomy Strategy effects in Rural Areas : A comparative study of the Alpine region and Inner Scandinavia

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Kulturgeografiska institutionen

    Författare :John Sudmeier; [2023]
    Nyckelord :bioeconomy; sustainability; agri-food; forestry; ecological farming; EU policy; heritage sensitive marketing;

    Sammanfattning : The European Commission Bioeconomy Strategy aims to stimulate an ecologically sustainable economy to mitigate climate change, declining biodiversity, and as an economic and social strategy meant to provide jobs and stimulate growth. The aim of this research project is to understand how the European Commission Bioeconomy Strategy is being interpreted and implemented in two different rural European regions, Inner Scandinavia, and the Alpine region, and based on those findings discuss how a sustainable bioeconomy strategy can be understood primarily in relation to the ecological sustainability goals of decarbonizing the economy and protecting biodiversity. 3. 3. Centering farmer perspectives on a dry-fertiliser made from human urine: a case study on Gotland, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/LUCSUS

    Författare :Nicola Parfitt; [2023]
    Nyckelord :circular nutrient economy; human urine fertiliser; ecological sanitation; eutrophication; sustainability science; Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : To reduce eutrophication and close the nutrient loop between sanitation and agriculture, innovations to recycle human waste are being further developed. As there is little research on Swedish farmer perspectives towards human urine fertilisers, this study investigates Gotlandic farmer perspectives on a dry-fertiliser derived from human urine, developed by Sanitation360. 4. 4. Ecological risk assessment of pesticide use in rice farming in the Mekong Delta , Vietnam

    Magister-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Författare :Bubaraye Ohiosimuan Dirikumo; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Pesticides; Ecological Risk Assessment ERA ; rice farming; Mekong Delta; PRIMET Model; Exposure Toxicity Ratio ETR ; species sensitivity distribution SSD ; predicted environmental concentrations PECs ;

    Sammanfattning : Pesticide use in rice farming is a common practice in the Mekong Delta and poses ecological risks to aquatic organisms, the environment, and human health. This study focused on the ecological risk assessment of pesticide use in rice farming using the PRIMET model as a decision support tool to evaluate the risks of pesticide exposure, ecotoxicity, and risk characterization, as well as employing the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) assessment model to calculate the potentially affected fraction (PAF) of species based on the computed predicted environmental concentrations (PECs) from PRIMET. 5. 5. Interacting futures of the Swedish food system

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Stockholm Resilience Centre

    Författare :Hanna Carlsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :scenarios; scenario modelling; fuzzy cognitive maps; food systems;

    Sammanfattning : Food systems are complex social-ecological systems. Currently, they are the source of large-scale health problems and environmental impacts, and there is widespread agreement that transformative change is needed. Scenarios are useful tools for directing such change, as they provide engaging future visions that work well with complex systems. LÄS MER
