  1. 1. Do OTC warming effects on ecosystem processes depend on moss species identity, precipitation, and moss removal?

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Alexina Brännlund; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Experimental warming; Subarctic tundra mosses; Productivity; Ecosystem respiration; Decomposition;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term warming experiments in arctic tundra have resulted in reduced moss cover and increased vascular plant cover. As mosses have a major impact on microclimatic conditions, changes in community composition can potentially alter direct and indirect drivers of productivity and decomposition, which are low in arctic ecosystems. 2. 2. Applying LPJ-GUESS on the Arctic: A model evaluation and benchmarking study

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Margot Jeanne Knapen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; LPJ-GUESS; Arctic; FLUXNET; Gross Primary Productivity; Ecosystem Respiration; Permafrost; Active Layer Thickness; Snow Depth; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Warming in the Arctic occurs at a much higher rate than the global average, which has a considerable impact on the Arctic terrestrial carbon cycle. Permafrost thawing can release substantial amounts of carbon, whilst tundra shrubification and tree-line advance, on the other hand, may compensate for this. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of plastic pollution on leaf litter decomposition in Swedish freshwater ecosystems : a field study addressing recently and globally emerging pollutants

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment

    Författare :Martina Stangl; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Microplastics; Face masks; Ecosystem functioning; Leaf decomposition; Field study;

    Sammanfattning : Plastic pollution is recognized as an increasing environmental problem, but few studies have addressed impacts on ecosystem functions, and very few have been conducted in the field. This study investigated the effects of polypropylene particles derived from disposable face masks on in-situ leaf litter decomposition processes in freshwater ecosystems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tundra carbon cycling in relation to sea-ice decline in a warming Arctic

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Juliane Glinski; [2022]
    Nyckelord :sea-ice decline; warming Arctic; earlier growing season; arctic tundra; heterotrophic and autotrophic respiration; climate warming; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : We set out to investigate whether arctic tundra acted as a sink or source of carbon dioxide (CO2) between 1980-2014 and to relate changes in the net carbon balance to Arctic sea-ice decline. We want to understand how climate change and arctic warming influence arctic carbon cycling. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Influence of permafrost disintegration on wetland carbon fluxes in Abisko, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Aida Esmailzadeh Davani; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; Permafrost; CH4 flux; CO2 flux; Abisko; Wetlands; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The northern permafrost regions are experiencing a rapid warming as surface temperatures are rising, causing a disintegration of permafrost and a deepening of the active layer (AL). This releases previously frozen carbon, making it available for decomposition by microbes. LÄS MER
