  1. 1. Using a GIS to enable an economic, land use and energy output comparison between small wind powered turbines and large-scale wind farms: the case of Oslo, Norway.

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Colin Potter; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Geography; GIS; Wind power; Renewable energy sources; urban wind energy; urban areas; planning; vertical axis wind turbines; comparative studies; urban integrated energy systems; Oslo; Roan; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Responding to an identified knowledge gap, the study aims to determine if smaller wind turbines located on top of existing urban buildings are more resource efficient (land utilization and economically) than large scale wind farms. To answer this question, using a GIS, the resource efficiency of the Roan wind farm in Northern Norway was compared to a theoretical modeled installation of small-scale wind turbines on top of buildings within a 2km radius study zone in central Oslo. 2. 2. Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Duncan Jones; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Geography; Geographical Information Systems; GIS; Habitat Modelling; Harbour Porpoise; MaxEnt; Tidal Processes; Conservation; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall Abstract Unintentional by-catch in fishing gear is a significant cause of mortality of harbour porpoises in UK waters. Understanding the spatial distribution of harbour porpoises at fine scales and how this changes over time is essential when trying to understand where these lethal interactions might occur. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A Framework for Managing Big Environmental Science Data

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för informationsteknologi

    Författare :Marcus Enderskog; [2023]
    Nyckelord :information technology; NoSQL; databases; informationsteknologi; NoSQL; databaser;

    Sammanfattning : This master thesis project investigates present non-traditional and established databasetechnologies for dealing with sensor-based high frequency monitoring in environmental scienceresearch. Starting on a small scale with limited system resources, this work aims to serve as astarting point and inspiration for tackling problems of "Big Data" magnitude. LÄS MER

  4. 4. ”Vi är 100% med i klimatmarschen” : en kvalitativ studie om miljöstyrda praktiker på svenska folkbibliotek

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för ABM

    Författare :Tova Danielsson Jonsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Sustainability; Public Libraries; Environment; Climate Practices; Hållbarhet; folkbibliotek; miljö; klimatpraktiker;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores on climate practices in public libraries. By mapping internal and user-oriented practices in Swedish public libraries, this study has a two-fold purpose; to understand how libraries engage with environmental and climate issues, and to gain a better understanding of how public libraries perceive their role in contributing to Sweden's climate work. 5. 5. Testing aerosol vertical profiling methods with portable instruments on unmanned and manned aircraft

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Ellen Grace Soroka; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; Aerosols; Vertical Profile; Black Carbon; PM2.5; Nanoparticles; UAV; Drone; Master degree thesis; 30 credits in Atmospheric Science Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis employed several portable sensors on board an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and manned aircraft in order to test new methods of measuring vertical profiles of aerosol particles and contribute to knowledge of aerosol distributions in the atmosphere. More data in this area is required to improve atmospheric modelling and future climate scenarios. LÄS MER
