1. Genetic diversity within Swedish national heritage cultivars of gooseberry, Ribes uva-crispa
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Breeding (from 130101)Sammanfattning : In the year 2000, the National program for diversity of cultivated plants (Pom) was established, aiming to recover old, Swedish fruit and berry cultivars that historically have been important for breeding and commercial production. A collection of mandate cultivars of Ribes uva-crispa (gooseberry) containing valuable accessions was created. LÄS MER
2. Genotyping ethylene production genes Md-ACS1 and Md-ACO1 for markerassisted selection in apple
Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Breeding (from 130101)Sammanfattning : Texture, firmness and storability are among the most important traits for fruit quality in apple. Consumers are increasingly demanding apples with a “crispy texture”, and the market is offering a premium for a longer shelf life, which has as a result generated an increased interest from plant breeders to meet these demands. 3. New methods for seed potato production: an investigation into the production and farmer uptake of mini tubers in South Africa
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)Sammanfattning : Potatoes are by far the most produced fresh vegetable crop in South Africa. Remarkably, potato sales represent more than 30% of the turnover in the Fresh Produce Markets (FPM). LÄS MER
4. Phenotyping of barley (Hordeum vulgare) responses to spot blotch caused by different isolates of the fungus Cochliobolus sativus : Searching for resistance sources in barley germplasm
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Breeding (from 130101)Sammanfattning : Barley is one of the major crops in the world, and spot blotch, caused by the fungus Cochliobolus sativus, is an important disease that affects it. Spot blotch can cause major yield losses and reduce the quality of the seeds, especially in wet, warm climates. The pathogen can also infect the roots of barley plants, causing common root rot. 5. Investigating germplasm collection and development potential of organic cowpea in Portugal
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Breeding (from 130101)Sammanfattning : Initial trials were conducted in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal together with a literature review with the aim to investigate the development potential of an organic plant breeding and seed company’s (Sementes Vivas) cowpea germplasm collection in relation to organic agriculture, sustainable development, and plant breeding. This work discusses different development directions such as intercropping, sole cropping and home gardens as well as organic plant breeding of the cowpea crop. LÄS MER
