   Sammanfattning : Syftet med studien är att undersöka vilka faktorer elever i årskurs 1 uttrycker öka deras motivation och lärande i matematik utifrån frågeställningen: Vad framträder i elevernas resonemang kring vilka faktorer som är viktiga för elevers motivation till matematikämnet? Studien grundar sig på en tematisk analys av elevintervjuer från elever i årskurs 1, och elevsvaren analyseras utifrån motivationsteorin Self Determination Theory. I tidigare forskning framkommer det att elever bland annat motiveras av att se nyttan med matematiken inför framtiden samt att olika arbetssätt motiverar dem olika mycket vilket också framkommer i den här studien.
