  1. 16. Analysis of Multicomponent Data to Study Esker Structures, Turku-Finland

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Geofysik

    Författare :Julia Fridlund; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Finland; esker structures; reflection seismology; multicomponent data; S-wave; Finland; rullstensås; reflexionsseismik; flerkomponentdata; S-vågor;

    Sammanfattning : Eskers are long winding ridges that originate from gravel that has travelled in meltwater streams in glaciers. At the study site, Virttaankangas plane in southwest Finland, there are esker structures covered by sediments. One reason why it is important to study eskers is because they are used for purifying drinking water. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Reconstructing the Long-Term Mass Balance of Brewster Glacier, New Zealand, Using a Degree-Day Approach

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Rikard Palmgren; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Mass balance; DDM; climate indicator; glacier; New Zealand; Massbalans; DDM; klimatindikator; glaciär; Nya Zeeland;

    Sammanfattning : Varmare klimat är något som kontinuerligt påverkar glaciärer planeten över och har under det senaste århundrandet vidtagit en global ökning av negativa massbalanser. Denna trend kan bidra till variationer i havsnivån och orsaka problem med översvämningar över hela världen. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Glacial lake flood hazard assessment and modelling : a GIS perspective

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Maimoona Zehra Jawaid; [2017]
    Nyckelord :moraine dammed lake; Himalayas; Bhutan; GIS; hazard assessment; dynamic flood model; glacial lake; Physical Geography; ecosystem analysis; digital elevation model; GEM; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : High mountain regions have experienced decreased glacier stability due to varying climate conditions. As glaciers melt, they are being replaced by glacial lakes of different sizes, some of which are prone to outburst flooding, and have caused catastrophic damage to downstream settlements and infrastructure. 4. 19. Near-Surface Energy Balance on an Alpine Rock Glacier: Murtèl-Corvatsch

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten och landskapslära

    Författare :Luisa Pruessner; [2017]
    Nyckelord :rock glaciers; energy balance; SNOWPACK; permafrost;

    Sammanfattning : This project investigates the near surface energy balance on the Murt`el-Corvatsch rock glacier in the Upper Engadine, Swiss Alps, using the 1D physical SNOWPACK model. A correct representation of the near surface energy balance is important to predict the long term evolution of permafrost below rock glaciers. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The mass balance and equilibrium line altitude trends of glaciers in northern Sweden

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Caroline Hall; [2017]
    Nyckelord :equilibrium line altitude ELA ; net mass balance; ablation; accumulation; glaciers; Sweden; climate; precipitation; temperature; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Glaciers are of extreme importance since they hold climatic data going back 2,000 years. Glaciers can provide important services such as ecosystem services, habitats, water runoff, and hydro-energy. They also affect the Earth’s processes and many feedback mechanisms. LÄS MER
