  1. 1. African elephants' effect on the temporal use of elephant highway by predator and prey. Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Författare :Rebecka Relfsson; [2023-08-18]
    Nyckelord :African savanna elephant; elephant highways; interspecies interactions; predation avoidance; predator-prey interaction; temporal activity;

    Sammanfattning : African savanna elephants (Loxondonta africana) are the world’s largest land-mammal and are considered a keystone species. The effect they have on vegetation and their environment is well known, but their effect on other animal species is less studied. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Optimal foraging in an Arctic herbivore : How does the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) respond to seasonal changes from summer through autumn of the Arctic tundra?

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Emma Limosa Djurberg; [2023]
    Nyckelord :foraging behaviour; phenology; ungulate; Arctic; Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus;

    Sammanfattning : Foraging decisions of large herbivores can be affected by many factors and have great effect on both above- and below-ground ecosystems. Here, I determine to which degree temporal (seasonality), or spatial (habitat) factors influence the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) and asses if small-scale foraging behaviour correlates with an animals’ patch residence time. 3. 3. Feasibility of reintroduction of European Bison (Bison bonasus) to Sweden with focus on traffic accidents

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre

    Författare :Michael Topszewski; [2023]
    Nyckelord :wildlife-vehicle collision; risk prediction; reintroduction feasibility; european bison; Bison bonasus; moose; Alces alces; Human-wildlife conflict;

    Sammanfattning : The historical occurrence of European bison (Bison bonasus) in Sweden during the early Holocene emphasizes the ecological significance for a potential reintroduction. The European bison, the largest herbivore on the European continent, is a keystone species with a significant influence on ecosystem dynamics. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tritrophic interactions with Silphium integrifolium at the axis : elucidating the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal species on plant phenotype

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Protection Biology

    Författare :Philipp Hansen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Arbuscular mycorrhiza; mycorrhizal responsiveness; induced plant volatiles; Silphium integrifolium Silflower ; perennial grains; new crops; ecological intensification;

    Sammanfattning : A fundamental understanding of the intricate interactions between crops and their environment may help guide the development of ecologically intensified agriculture. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are root symbionts that can increase a plant’s access to soil resources and have been found to reprogram plant defensive mechanisms, potentially influencing the performance of plant antagonists. 5. 5. Migration and activity of the eastern black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas schmidtii) in Ol Pejeta, Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Författare :Julia Hedman Wallin; [2022]
    Nyckelord :black-backed jackals; Kenya; activity; weather; moon; illumination;

    Sammanfattning : This study examined the effects of weather during the day and illumination at night on the migration activity of the eastern black-backed jackals (Canis mesomelas schmidtii) in Ol Pejeta, a wildlife conservancy in Kenya, from October 2015 to December 2019. Jackal ecology is an understudied subject where focus has been directed to a sub-specie of black-backed jackals in southern Africa, with different animals, seasons, and habitats than to those in Ol Pejeta and eastern Africa.
