New territory is being created by the ice melting and new natural resources are being found, how can this impact the current situation? This study looks at and discusses the current geopolitical situation in the Arctic using two theories from international relations, realism and liberalism and how the situation can develop using these theories. Följande uppsats ämnar därför att undersöka hur alliansregeringens utrikespolitik med Carl Bildt som ansvarig minister 2010 skiljer sig från den nuvarande Tidö-regeringens utrikespolitik med Tobias Billström som ansvarig minister 2023. Populism as a political force is reshaping liberal democracies, and by analysing how populism as a counter movement against the liberal hegemony is constructed, this thesis, while focused on Canada, will show how societal polarization and the construction of political frontiers is expanding the populist zeitgeist.
