  1. 1. The Ecological and Anthropogenic Impacts of fishing gear in a tropical system : How the size of Spotted Rose Snapper (Lutjanus guttatus) and the ratio of target catch, is influenced by approved fishing gear within a marine area of responsible fishing in the South-Western Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica.

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM)

    Författare :Alfred Eriksson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Overfishing; overexploitation; Spotted Rose Snapper; Lutjanus guttatus; Gulf of Nicoya; Costa Rica; marine protected areas; artisinal fishermen; bycatch; Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture; incopesca; fishing gear; longlines;

    Sammanfattning : The oceans are essential for humanity, yet these systems continue to be degraded and suffer from pollution, habitat destruction and overexploitation. The Costa Rican Gulf of Nicoya is a productive gulf that is fished by both large-scale industrial fisheries and small-scale artisanal fishermen. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Quantifying the state of the coral reef ecosystem in relation to biophysical benthic and pelagic indicators and biological drivers of change in the Saba National Marine Park, Dutch Caribbean

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Wiebke Homes; [2021]
    Nyckelord :GCRMN; Reef Health Index; ; marine protected area; fish-benthos interaction; macroalgae; herbuvory; trophic cascade; fishing; coral disease; Caribbean;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs are experiencing large scale degradation. Motivated by the need for regular data monitoring and for quantification of the state and change of benthic and pelagic organisms, the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network protocol was executed on 18 dive sites in fished and unfished areas around the island of Saba in the Saba National Marine Park (SNMP) in the Dutch Caribbean from March to May 2019. 3. 3. ”Human uses carefully managed” : A critical discourse analysis of the Chagos Marine Protected Area

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för tema

    Författare :Axel Hallgren; [2018]
    Nyckelord :large-scale marine protected areas; political ecology; biopolitics; human-nature relationship; territorialization; critical discourse analysis; chagos marine protected area;

    Sammanfattning : The large marine protected area (MPA) declared in 2010 around the Chagos Archipelago, also known as the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), has led to a conflict in the thick of environmental protection, colonialism, sovereignty claims, and the human rights dispute of the Chagossian people that once were exiled from the islands in the 1970s. By applying a Foucauldian inspired critical discourse analysis, this study interprets and examines how the nature/human relationship was portrayed during and after the creation of the Chagos MPA.
