    Sammanfattning : The aim of this Master’s thesis is to achieve philosophical clarity on an interpretative problem I have been struggle with in Euripides’ Medea: That Medea murders her own children, while claimingto love them. Situated within the philosophical and literary tradition of ordinary language philosophy and ordinary language criticism, the thesis draws on ideas, theoretical discussions, and concepts from Ludwig Wittgenstein, Toril Moi, Stanley Cavell, Cora Diamond, and Niklas Forsberg – but also Søren Kierkegaard.     Sammanfattning : This essay examines the portrayal of present-day loneliness in the novels Eileen (2015) and My Year of Rest and Relaxation (2018) by contemporary author Ottessa Moshfegh. The main point of departure for this examination has been through a literary sociological standpoint which claims the inevitable effects of the current time and place through which a work is being produced in, therefore, enabling an examination of modern-day loneliness even though the stories take place in an imagined past.     Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of motherhood in Afhild Agrell’s play Räddad (first performed in 1882 at The Royal Theater in Stockholm) and Adda Ravnkilde posthumously published novel Judith Fürste (1884) with a focus on the relationship between mother and son. I study how the mothers wish to raise their sons, how mother and son interact with one another, the family dynamic’s influence on their motherhood and finally how they shape their identity as mothers when their motherhood is first threatened (often by their husbands) and then after the death of their sons.
