  1. 1. Improved Statistical Methods for Elliptic Stochastic Homogenization Problems : Application of Multi Level- and Multi Index Monte Carlo on Elliptic Stochastic Homogenization Problems

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad beräkningsvetenskap

    Författare :Khalil Daloul; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Homogenization; Multilevel Monte Carlo; Multi-Index Monte Carlo; Monte Carlo; Multiscale methods;

    Sammanfattning : In numerical multiscale methods, one relies on a coupling between macroscopic model and a microscopic model. The macroscopic model does not include the microscopic properties that the microscopic model offers and that are vital for the desired solution. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Multi-Scale Topology Optimization of Lattice Structures Using Machine Learning

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad mekanik

    Författare :Julia Ibstedt; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Topology optimization; Multi-scale topology optimization; Machine learning; Gaussian process; Homogenization; Inverse homogenization; Anisotropic materials; Symmetry groups; Material property space; Topologioptimering; Flerskalig topologioptimering; Maskininlärning; Gaussian process; Homogenisering; Anisotropa material; Symmetrigrupper; Materialegenskapsrymd;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores using multi-scale topology optimization (TO) by utilizing inverse homogenization to automate the adjustment of each unit-cell's geometry and placement in a lattice structure within a pressure vessel (the design domain) to achieve desired structural properties. The aim is to find the optimal material distribution within the design domain as well as desired material properties at each discretized element and use machine learning (ML) to map microstructures with corresponding prescribed effective properties. 3. 3. Statistics of Electric and Magnetic Fields at the Earth’s Bow Shock

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Författare :Tsz-Kiu Wong-Chan; [2023]
    Nyckelord :MMS; Earth’s bow shock; Collisionless shocks; Correlation study; statistics; Space; Space plasma physics; MMS; Jordens bogchock; Kollisionsfria chocker; Korrelationsstudie; Statistik; Rymd; Rymdplasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : The interaction between the solar wind and Earth’s magnetic field creates the Earth’s bow shock. It is an ideal region for space probes like MMS, THEMIS or Clusters to study the collisionless shock phenomenon in space plasma. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Beyond Traditional Tomography: X-ray Multi-projection Imaging for Additive Manufacturing

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Maria Esther Vilar Alvarez; [2023]
    Nyckelord :X-ray tomography; X-ray multiprojection-imaging; deep learning; additive manufacturing; synchrotron radiation; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to push the limits of 3D X-ray imaging by studying the minimum number of projections required to retrieve high-quality reconstructions for additive manufacturing processes. This project first focuses on understanding how X-ray tomography works, by reconstructing additive manufacturing data already obtained (from PSI, TOMCAT beamline) using two standard reconstruction algorithms, GRIDREC and SIRT. 5. 5. Mescape - A probabilistic mesoscopic model for fire evacuation in large gatherings

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Författare :Lorenzo Contini; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Human behaviour; crowd evacuation; mesoscopic modelling; hydraulic model; large gatherings; fire safety; performance-based design; quantitative risk assessment; consequence analysis; uncertainty analysis; probabilistic modelling; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This study presents a mesoscopic model that predicts pedestrian evacuation in large gatherings with probabilistic methods. The model is based on a coarse network representation of buildings, where occupants are treated at a different scale according to their location. LÄS MER
