1. Methane Sulphonic Acid in East Antarctic Coastal Firn and Ice Cores and Its Relationship with Chlorophyll-a and Sea Ice Extent in the Southern Ocean
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : The seasonal retreat of sea ice in the austral spring and summer around Antarctica has a significant effect on phytoplankton activity, mainly due to light availability, meltwater input of dissolved iron, and surface water stratification. Phytoplankton produce dimethylsulfoniopropionate, the precursor to the climate-cooling gas dimethyl sulphide, which is ventilated to the atmosphere and oxidised to methane sulphonic acid (MSA). 2. Records of environmental change and sedimentation processes over the last century in a Baltic coastal inlet
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionenSammanfattning : The marine ecosystem in the Baltic Sea is affected by multiple stress factors, e.g. eutrophication and deoxygenation, overfishing and anthropogenic pollution. Here we evaluate the short-term trends of dissolved oxygen in bottom waters and changes in the primary productivity within a coastal inlet in the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER
3. Size and Abundance of Late Pleistocene Reticulofenestrid Coccoliths from the Eastern Indian Ocean in Relation to Temperature and Aridity
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Measurements on coccolith abundance and mass can be used as a signal of primary productivity and pelagic calcification in response to environmental change. The Leeuwin Current (LC) is known to transport warm and low-salinity waters from the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) southwards along the coast of West Australia. LÄS MER
4. Distribution of black carbon and its impact on Eutrophication in Lake Victoria
Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Tema MiljöförändringSammanfattning : Lake Victoria (LV), is the largest tropical fresh water lake. It is however facing a myriad of challenges like eutrophication, introducing species, mass extinction and climate change. Eutrophication has mostly been seen as a result of non-point pollution from upstream agricultural areas. LÄS MER
5. Microplastics in the marine environment - A threat to marine biota?
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildningSammanfattning : Microplastics in marine environments are an emerging environmental problem of international concern. This review focuses on the sources, quantities and effects of microplastics, to assess whether or not they pose a threat to marine biota. LÄS MER
