    Sammanfattning : In this paper I am studying the orchestral work Lontano (1967) by György Ligeti (1923-2006) and its use in the films The Shining (1980), by Stanley Kubrick, and Shutter Island (2010), by Martin Scorsese. The purpose has been to apply an unusual perspective on film music, based on one selected musical work and how it is used in moving images, instead of the more common method where the entire soundtrack of one specific movie is studied. It is interesting to explore the musical significance and the emotional aspect of the film out of a media and communications perspective and visual communications perspective because it’s a subject that belongs to the communications of scientific discipline as film is a media text which is working both as communicative and as audio-visual medium with its expressive aspects.
