  1. 1. Mercury accumulation in lake sediments on different time scales – the influence of algal primary production

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Anne Rebotzke; [2023]
    Nyckelord :mercury; lake sediment; primary productivity; algal scavenging; biogenic silica; diatom proxy; chlorophyll-a; organic matter;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work is to test the proposed approach of algal scavenging as a driver of sediment mercury (Hg) on different time scales and to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of Hg accumulation in lake sediments. A 3000-year sediment record from Nylandssjön in northern Sweden was analysed for this purpose, as well as a 20-year sediment record from the seasonal sediment traps of this lake. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Microplastics in the Gulf of Bothnia, SwedenA comparison between Österfjärden and Örefjärden.

    Kandidat-uppsats, Örebro universitet/Institutionen för naturvetenskap och teknik

    Författare :Emma Overgaard; [2021]
    Nyckelord :IR; Microplastic; pollution; polymer composition; surface water; visual characterization;

    Sammanfattning : Microplastics are emerging pollutants in the marine environment, including a range of polymers modified by varying quantities of additives and sorbed pollutants, differing in size, colour, and shape. This study focuses on characterization and quantification through visual characterization of microplastics >300 μm in surface water and at 5-meter depth in the Gulf of Bothnia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial and Temporal Variation in the Quality of Summer Foods for Herbivores along a Latitudinal Gradient

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Michaela Holá; [2012]
    Nyckelord :nutrient variability; Betula pubescens; Epilobium angustifolium ; near infrared reflectance spectroscopy; Sweden; Spatiotemporal scales;

    Sammanfattning : The spatial and temporal variation in nutritional quality of plants consumed by herbivores is considered as one of the main factors governing their feeding patterns and influencing their productivity. Plant nutrients vary in space and time both within and among plant species, at fine scales, and across large geographical scales, creating a heterogeneous environment where herbivores have to cope with variation in food quality at different spatiotemporal scales.
