  1. 1. Pathogen inactivation and quantitative microbial risk assessment for Peepoo sanitation system, Kibera

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Linnea Eriksson; Lisa Sundberg; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Quantitative microbial risk assessment; ammonia sanitisation; faeces; risk assessment; inactivation model; pathogen; Ascaris; E. coli; Campylobacter; Enterococcus; sanitation system; sanitisation technology;

    Sammanfattning : Unsafe sanitation systems poses a risk for pathogen transmission, wherefore it is important to both inactivate pathogens present in human excreta and conduct safe sanitation systems from use to end-use. The Peepoo toilet, using ammonia sanitisation, have been suggested as a low-cost sanitation solution and is implemented in schools in Kibera, an urban slum in Kenya. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of a bacterial infection model in zebrafish embryos with special focus on colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för medicinsk biokemi och mikrobiologi

    Författare :Anna Tamara Leber; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Danio rerio; embryo model; microinjection; innate immunity; inflammation; Klebsiella pneumoniae; colistin-resistance; antimicrobial peptides; cross-resistance;

    Sammanfattning : Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a promising model organism for immunological studies. A time window between the development of the innate and adaptive immune system makes it possible to investigate the mechanisms originating exclusively from the innate immune system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Campylobacter survival under stress conditions encountered between poultry farm and the human intestine

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för medicinsk biokemi och mikrobiologi

    Författare :Alfalah Yazan; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Campylobacter; Micro-aerobic; Survival; Dehydration; Poultry; Zoonosis; Inactivation; Biofilms.;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter are probably the most important bacterial pathogen related to food-borne illnesses; specifically, gastroenteritis and diarrheal diseases. These bacteria can be isolated from various environments, but always originate from the intestine of warm blooded animals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Skyddande immunitet mot Strongylus vulgaris – en framtida möjlighet? : en studie av adjuvanset G3 samt L3 larvers inverkan på cytokinproduktion hos häst

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health

    Författare :Frida Nilsfors; [2018]
    Nyckelord :vaccin; strongylus vulgari; adjuvans; equin;

    Sammanfattning : Strongylus vulgaris (stor blodmask) är den mest patogena parasiten hos häst i Sverige, redan vid låg infektionsdos orsakar parasiten stor skada på blodkärlen som försörjer tarmen. Skadorna kan ge upphov till allvarliga fall av kolik och tromboser. Prevalensen av S. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Treatment of faecal sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks using lime and urea : Pathogen die-off with respect to time of storage

    Master-uppsats, Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Författare :Emma Lindberg; Anna Rost; [2018]
    Nyckelord :faecal sludge; treatment; lime; urea; pathogen inactivation;

    Sammanfattning : The study was made at Lubigi sewage treatment plant in Kampala, Uganda, during February and March 2018. The aim of this master thesis was to treat faecal sludge with two different methods, urea and lime, to investigate the efficiency of the chemicals to inactivate pathogens and to estimate the feasibility and the costs of the treatment.
