    Sammanfattning : This thesis draws on ten in-depth interviews in order to analyze young and educated, middle-class women’s perceptions on public safety in Mumbai, regarding the risk of sexual harassment. It focuses on the ways these women negotiate with risk and the patriarchal norms of women’s appropriate behavior in public spaces, further, examines how these women address their oppression and act in order to empower themselves and other women.     Sammanfattning : Although Finland is deemed to be a female-friendly country, it has been criticized for the inability to eradicate violence committed specifically against women. According to the Finnish League for Human Rights, – who work closely with immigrant women suffering from honour-based violence, which is the type of violence focused on in this paper – Finnish social workers nor police are well equipped to deal with women suffering from honour-based violence.
