  1. 1. Usability of Sentinel-1 C-band VV and VH SAR data for the detection of flooded oil palm

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Sarah Lee Sienaert; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Geography; GIS; Sentinel-1; SAR; C-band; VV; VH; Oil Palm; Flood; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Flooding in oil palm plantations in Southeast Asia is a common problem. The oil palm’s habitable range is restricted to lowland equatorial areas, and the high rainfall and degraded landscapes associated with oil palm cultivation leaves oil palm prone to flooding. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Nora Kainz; [2021]
    Nyckelord :physical geography; ecosystem analysis; permafrost degradation; DOC; DOC concentration; stable isotope carbon signature; DOC quality; DOC degradation; Atmospheric Sciences and Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018. 3. 3. Markytesänkning, växthusgasavgång och utlakning från dikad torvjord

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Martin Ahlvin; Sofia Alexandersson Ros; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Dikad torvmark; höjdmätning; markytesänkning; koppargödsling; växthusgaser;

    Sammanfattning : Greenhouse gas emissions and land subsidence on four cultivated peat soils (Martebo, Örke, Kälkestad, Lidhult) have been investigated by measuring emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) in field and lab. Greenhouse emitted gas (mg/h) from undisturbed soil cores was measured in lab. LÄS MER

  4. 4. APRIL Ecosystem Restoration Project: A sustainable model for Indonesian peatlands?

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Michael Ceruti; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Sustainable development; Ecosystem Restoration Concession; peatland degradation; restoration; conservation; Kampar Peninsula; Indonesia;

    Sammanfattning : The growth in global population and the unsustainable business as usual model adopted by private companies in managing land, are causing huge pressures on Indonesian natural ecosystems. The widespread peatland deforestation and degradation affecting Indonesia has been the leading cause of biodiversity loss, decrease of vital ecosystem services, land subsidence, fires and increased impoverishment of local communities. 5. 5. Object-Based Classification of Vegetation at Stordalen Mire near Abisko by using High-Resolution Aerial Imagery

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Marco Giljum; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Object-Based Image Analysis; OBIA; Vegetation Classification; Permafrost; Arctic Peatland; Remote Sensing; Aerial Photography; Environmental Monitoring; Landscape Analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is to investigate and apply the remote sensing method of object-based image analysis (OBIA) for vegetation classification of a permafrost underlain peatland in sub-arctic Sweden, by using aerial imagery of high resolution. Since the northern landscapes are an important source of naturally stored CH4 and CO2, their contribution to the global carbon cycle is a focus in research about climate change and the global methane exchange.
