  1. 1. Flexible invaders: a study into aggressive behaviour in Öland's range expanding collared flycatchers

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Carlos González Gozalo; [2022]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Behavioural shifts, or changes in behaviour patterns, are an often-overlooked aspect of ecological invasions and range expansions, that can nevertheless be key in determining how and why a species may or may not succeed in their expansion process. We looked at aggressive behaviour in a small insectivore passerine species, the collared flycatcher, on the island of Öland, where it is undergoing a range expansion to the detriment of the native, ecologically similar, pied flycatcher. 2. 2. Avian Malaria infection and its effect on cellular metabolic rate in Ficedula Flycatchers

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning; Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för cell- och molekylärbiologi

    Författare :Nader Ibrahim; [2022]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic avian malaria and low-intensity parasite infections can have a negative influence on reproduction and survival which can reduce the fitness of the host. Therefore, the effect on host due to avian malaria infection can affect a bird’s lifespan. Consequently, avian parasites can influence evolution, physiology, and host morphology. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization of the Recombination Landscape in Red-Breasted and Taiga Flycatchers

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Evolutionsbiologi

    Författare :Bella Vilhelmsson Sinclair; [2019]
    Nyckelord :recombination; Ficedula parva; Ficedula albicilla; flycatcher; statistical phasing; speciation;

    Sammanfattning : Between closely related species there are genomic regions with a higher level of differentiation compared to the rest of the genome. For a time it was believed that these regions harbored loci important for speciation but it has now been shown that these patterns can arise from other mechanisms, like recombination. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The effect of nest box temperature on the breeding success of Pied Flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca) in northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Jorina Boer; [2018]
    Nyckelord :pied flycatcher; Ficedula hypoleuca; temperature; breeding success; microclimate; nest box;

    Sammanfattning : Benefits in terms of breeding success might arise from selecting nest sites with warmer thermal conditions. These energetic gains can subsequently be invested in increased breeding success by both parents and their nestlings. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The limits of species recognition: heterospecific song learning in pied flycatchers

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Maria Triantafyllidou; [2016]
    Nyckelord :birdsong; flycatchers; pied flycatchers; Ficedula; Öland; mixed singing; song learning;

    Sammanfattning : The closely related species pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) and collared flycatcher (F. albicollis) co-occur on the Swedish island of Öland, where they compete over similar resources. The majority of male pied flycatchers have been found to incorporate elements of the collared flycatcher song in their repertoire. LÄS MER
