  1. 1. Laboratory starlight simulator for future space-based heterodyne interferometry

    Master-uppsats, Luleå tekniska universitet/Rymdteknik

    Författare :William Karlsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Angular resolution; Astronomy; Coherence length; Digital delay lines; Fiber optical circuit; Heterodyne interferometry; Interference; Laboratory starlight simulator; NIR light Near-Infrared ; Optical path differences; Space exploration; Starlight; Testbed environment;

    Sammanfattning : In astronomy, interferometry by ground-based telescopes offers the greatest angular resolution. However, the Earth´s atmosphere distorts the incident wavefront from a celestial object, leading to blurring and signal loss. It also restricts the transmission of specific wavelengths within the electromagnetic spectrum. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fast Simulations of Radio Neutrino Detectors : Using Generative Adversarial Networks and Artificial Neural Networks

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Författare :Anton Holmberg; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Askaryan emission; Radio detection of neutrinos; in-ice propagation; neutrino; Generative adversarial networks; GAN; WGAN; Neural networks; NN; surrogate model; IceCube; deep learning; generative model;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrino astronomy is expanding into the ultra-high energy (>1017eV) frontier with the use of in-ice detection of Askaryan radio emission from neutrino-induced particle showers. There are already pilot arrays for validating the technology and the next few years will see the planning and construction of IceCube-Gen2, an upgrade to the current neutrino telescope IceCube. 3. 3. Tuning of the ESS Drift Tube Linac using Machine Learning

    Magister-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/European Spallation Source ESS AB

    Författare :Johan Lundquist; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Accelerator; drift tube linac; machine learning; neural network; ESS; linac; tuning; proton; longitudinal dynamics; beam physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The European Spallation Source, currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, will be the world's brightest neutron source. It is driven by a linear accelerator designed to accelerate a beam of protons with 62.5 mA, 2.86 ms long pulses, working at 14 Hz. LÄS MER

  4. 4. An Infrared Stellar Thermometer: Exploiting IGRINS Spectra

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Emelie Sandved; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Effective temperature; K-giants; surface gravity; oxygen abundance; carbon abundance; CO lines; OH lines; line sensitivities; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Using the infrared (IR) spectral range when measuring stellar spectra is beneficial compared to using the optical range mainly when observing distant stars through the dust dense interstellar regions in the Galactic mid-plane. Methods to determine stellar parameters from IR spectra are, however, not fully developed yet because technological difficulties in creating reliable IR detectors have slowed the advance of such methods. 5. 5. Measuring the [C II]-to-H I connection in high-redshift absorption-selected galaxies

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Gaurav Senthil Kumar; [2022]
    Nyckelord :QSO; Quasar; Black Hole; AGN; Active Galactic Nuclei; DLA; Damped Lyman Alpha; C II; [C II]; H I; Sightline; HST; X-shooter; Spectroscopy; Echelle Spectroscope; Hyperfine transition; Hyperfine; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : HI neutral gas is the basic building block of galaxies. It dictates the star formation rate and hence the metal enrichment rates within high redshift galaxies. HI neutral gas cannot be directly observed beyond z ≈ 0. LÄS MER
