    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the power balance between states and multinational corporations, and how the green energy transition impacts this balance, a connection commonly overlooked by researchers. I have sought to remedy this gap by conducting a qualitative case study of the relationship between the Democratic Republic of Congo, which holds the majority of global cobalt reserves, and major cobalt producer Glencore.     Sammanfattning : Med en snabbt tillväxt av elfordon på marknaden för att uppfylla alla globala mål som satts upp för att minska utsläppen av växthusgaser, förbättra luftkvaliteten och uppfylla kundernas behov eftersom att elbilar blivit mer trendiga i västvärlden, krävs det nya reformer som bidrar till en mer resurseffektiv tillverkning. Detta leder dock till stora utmaningar för avfallshanteringen vid slutet av batteriernas livslängd eftersom dålig hantering av dessa batterier kommer innebära stora negativa effekter på miljön, ekonomin samt olika sociala sammanhang.
