  1. 1. An Infrared Stellar Thermometer: Exploiting IGRINS Spectra

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Emelie Sandved; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Effective temperature; K-giants; surface gravity; oxygen abundance; carbon abundance; CO lines; OH lines; line sensitivities; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Using the infrared (IR) spectral range when measuring stellar spectra is beneficial compared to using the optical range mainly when observing distant stars through the dust dense interstellar regions in the Galactic mid-plane. Methods to determine stellar parameters from IR spectra are, however, not fully developed yet because technological difficulties in creating reliable IR detectors have slowed the advance of such methods. 2. 2. An Infrared Stellar Thermometer

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Ieva Puspure; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Infrared Spectroscopy; Infrared; Red giants; Stellar Temperature; Spectroscopy; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Infrared (IR) spectroscopy has many advantages over optical, one of which is allowing us to see through intergalactic dust, letting us probe deeper into space and dust-dense regions such as galactic centers. However the investigating the IR spectral range is a relatively new field, owing to recent developments in detector technology, and stellar parameter determination in IR is not well researched. 3. 3. Carbon Abundance in the Milky Way Galaxy

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Calum Kvernes Macpherson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Carbon; Abundance; Milky Way; Chemical Evolution; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Carbon is the fourth most abundant element after hydrogen, helium and oxygen. It is a product of stellar nucleosynthesis as well as it being an important bio signature for life; this makes the analysis of carbon very fundamental. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Testing the multi-epoch luminosity function of asymptotic giant branch stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud with VISTA

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Författare :Róisín O'Rourke Brogan; [2020]
    Nyckelord :stars: AGB; stars: late-type; stars: atmospheres; stars: variable; small magellanic cloud; magellanic system; stellar populations; model stellar populations; dwarf galaxies;

    Sammanfattning : The physics pertaining to the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase of stellar evolution has been studied for many years. However, the mechanics behind many characteristics displayed at this stage are still not fully understood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Photometry of carbon star wind-modelsat solar & sub-solar metallicities

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Författare :Vlad Rastau; [2020]
    Nyckelord :C-type AGB; photometry; mass-loss;

    Sammanfattning : Asymptotic giant branch stars (AGB) are cool, luminous stars withan initial mass of approximately 0.8 to 8 solar masses. Towards theend of their lives they undergo heavy mass loss, a process thoughtto be caused by dust-driven winds. When it comes to carbon-richAGB stars, i. LÄS MER
