  1. 1. Play behaviour and maternal relationship between ewe and lambs in Urial sheep (Ovis vignei bochariensis)

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Författare :Alicia Josefsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Urial sheep; play behaviour; social play; locomotor play; maternal behaviour; locomotor behaviour welfare; conservation; ex situ; zoo;

    Sammanfattning : Ex situ conservation is done to alleviate the risk of threatened species going extinct and one major conservation aim is increasing the population size. One place working with ex situ conservation is the zoo Nordens Ark in Sweden, and one of their target species is Urials (Ovis vignei bochariensis). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Variation in sow and piglet behaviour and welfare over time during a 5-week nursing period in individual loose housing pens

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Byeonguk Yang; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Nursing behaviour; suckling behaviour; sow welfare; piglet welfare; maternal behaviour;

    Sammanfattning : This master thesis aimed to investigate variation in the sow and piglet behaviour and welfare over time during a 5-week nursing period in the loose housing pen. This study was performed through analysis of video-recorded behaviours in 17 Swedish and Dutch Yorkshire sows and their piglets (284 piglets, pure-bred Yorkshire × Hampshire, average litter size with standard error = 16. 3. 3. The effect of forage on piglets’ behavior in connection with weaning

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Linnea Wikars; [2021]
    Nyckelord :behaviour; enrichment; forage; pig; silage; weaning;

    Sammanfattning : Pigs’ (Sus scrofa) behaviors are affected by the environment they are housed in, where an enriched environment offers pigs to perform more diverse behaviors. Pigs reared in barren environments perform more oral manipulation toward their pen mates, compared to pigs reared in enriched environments. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of cow-calf contact on feed intake, milk production and energy balance in dairy cows in early lactation

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Carina Tufvesson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Cow-calf contact system; dairy cow; suckling; feed intake; feeding pattern; milk production; energy balance;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this study was to compare the production level, feed intake and energy balance in early lactation of non-suckled cows against cows in a cow-driven cow-calf contact (CCC) system. CCC systems have become interesting to evaluate as they are thought to provide a more natural behaviour for both the cow and calf, several studies have reported higher growth and better health in calves kept in these systems. 5. 5. Lying behaviour of lactating dairy cows in a cow-calf contact system

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Författare :Claire Sydney Wegner; [2021]
    Nyckelord :cow-calf contact system; dairy cattle; lying behaviour; welfare;

    Sammanfattning : Conventional dairy farming practices usually involve the early separation of calves from their dams. Cow-calf contact (CCC) systems may offer an alternative rearing solution that allows for the expression of natural behaviours, such as suckling and bonding. LÄS MER
