   Sammanfattning : This research analyses attitudes to urban green spaces within the framework of compact city development models, using Uppsala as a case study and investigating the tension between growth and preservation. Compact city literature strongly promotes the importance of green space within urban environments for both social and ecological wellbeing and highlights what becomes an increasing requirement for this as populations within urban areas are densified, which is a concomitant goal of compact city models. This thesis investigates its occurrence across three media to establish how the gated community mode of living, as rendered in post-apocalyptic speculative fiction, responds to the threat and consequences of climate and environmental crisis.    Sammanfattning : In this paper, I argue skateboarding to be a ritualizing performance that acts as a catalyst for transformative energies and heightened emotional states. Aided by the sensory experience of riding a board, powerful feelings of connectedness and unity arise amongst those who practice skateboarding, so intense that they transgress day-to-day social boundaries and temporarily overcome the socioeconomic segregation of ordinary urban life.
