Sammanfattning: Equality is an important part of our democracy. As a social science teacher, you have a greater responsibility to educate tomorrow's citizens in democracy. In order to fulfill our mission, we can take the help of teaching materials in social science. It is important that these textbooks are up-to-date and convey knowledge in equality and do so in a way where students can identify with what is written. The purpose of the study is to investigate how gender equality, gender and heteronormativity are presented in textbooks in social studies for the high school. When it comes to research in the field, this is limited and old. My research is based on five textbooks in social studies for the elementary school's later years. I have chosen to report my results quantitatively and qualitatively, including an analysis. The analysis is based on gender theory, including gender equality and heteronormativity as well as social science didactics. My conclusions are that I see that all textbooks question the gender order. However, there are shortcomings in some of the textbooks when it comes to problematizing gender equality and clarifying the lack of equality that prevails in society in. Gender as a concept also needs to be explained and clarified. My clearest conclusion was that in the knowledge area information and communication there were remarkable shortcomings of gender equality, gender and heteronormativity.
