Digital nudging: en strategi för minskat matsvinn och hållbara matval vid skolmåltider

Sammanfattning: Digitalizations progression have created new possibilities to work with sustainability questions which is one of many challenges for today’s society. Food waste and food choices are a big part of sustainability and are affected by human behavior. One way to work with human behavior is through digital nudging. Örnsköldsviks municipality works with food waste and food choices in their schools, but they haven’t investigated how they could influence their pupils on a wider level. One common way to work in this municipality is through strategies. The purpose of this study is to create knowledge for how digital nudging can be used to increase pupils' awareness as a way for the municipality of Örnsköldsvik to work with food waste and food choices in this municipality’s schools. On a wider level, this study can also be interesting for other municipality as a way to work with sustainability issues at school meals. The study is based on previous research in several related fields, semi structured interviews and an analysis of Instagrams accounts that belong to four school kitchens of the municipality. This creates a base for a strategy for digital nudging in this area. To bring clarity about the municipality capacity to work with this strategy we conducted a validation which tested the strategies applicability. The strategy was improved after feedback from the validation interviews. The result of this study is therefore a strategy with two practical suggestions on how the municipality of Örnsköldsvik could work with digital nudgingto work with food waste and food choices in this municipality schools. This study contributes to the current research on digital nudging since it investigates a gap that we could identify in the current research in this field. Furthermore, this study makes a practical contribution to Örnsköldsviks municipality since it presents a strategy they potentially could work with.
