Sammanfattning: The society today is full of new changes within the companies and their middle chiefs. Middle chief’s visions have changed during recent years. The female chiefs have grown in numbers, and because of that people have started to focus on whether there are any similarities or differences between the female and male leadership behaviors. The essay is about similarities and differences between female and male middle chief’s idea about effective leadership behavior. Our analysis is based on a qualitative study, where we have made four interviews with four chiefs in industrial companies. These represented the middle managers of the companies, where two of these were male chiefs and the other two were female managers. Our interview questions were semi structured with a focus on open discussions. We started with theories about relation- and task oriented behavior. These have then been connected to female and male behaviors. To better understand the connection between the theories we have made a theoretical model over the mentioned behaviors to effective behavior. We did this to see if there are any similarities and/or differences. In our conclusion we found that both female and male middle chiefs possess behaviors that represented their and the opposite gender. There were no clear connections to representation of female and male behavior. Furthermore al the interviewed chiefs focused on collaboration and discussions, which we could connect to the relation oriented behavior. The chief’s could easily have been just as like task oriented- and relations oriented in their behavior.
