Sammanfattning: There are various ways in which Enterprise Architecture (EA) is defined these days. One of the more common definitions is that EA is a dashboard that allows business architects and other stakeholders to govern an enterprise’s transformation process. This dashboard shows current operations as well as its future and desired state. In theory this might seem as a good tool for enterprise architects but applying the theory into practice can be a challenge. The purpose of this essay is to examine the larger Swedish enterprises and their usage of EA, This essay addresses the question: To what extent is EA applicable in today's companies? Through a careful review of EA literature, this essay presents some of the more known frameworks and methods for applying EA. It also mentions the purpose and possibilities with the usage of EA and provides some criticism and thoughts on our use of EA in modern companies. We address the Architecture Capability Maturity Model (ACMM) developed by US Department of Commerce (DoC) for reviewing the company’s use of EA and maturity within the field. The ACMM provides a framework that represents the key components of a productive IT- architecture process. The essay concludes with a discussion and presentation of the results of our findings.
