The Effect of Covid-19 On Air Traffic Passenger Volumes In Europe
Sammanfattning: With both the last global pandemic and humanity's first flight taken place almost 100 years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic came to be in a very different world. Our way of life and thinking have changed to a degree that rendered our 100-year-old memory almost useless in our struggle to understand the world and its inhabitants during a pandemic. This paper hopes to be first among the many to come in attempting to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected normal aspects of daily life by studying the negative effect of COVID-19 on air travel in Europe. More importantly, we will focus our discussion on understanding the mechanism behind the change in consumer behavior as this is crucial in order to learn about why humans reacted the way they did. The paper finds that raising number of detected COVID-19 has led to a sharp decline in air travel during the first months of the pandemic. However, data limitations mean one can only hypothesize about the exact mechanism(s) which is why further research is necessary.
