(O)likhetens värde – Om tolerans i den invandrarpolitiska diskursen

Sammanfattning: This master thesis revolves around one key question: did the view on tolerance change within the discourse of immigration-policies in Sweden after 2010? After a successful election by “Sverigedemokraterna” a general concern was raised regarding how immigration- and immigrant policies would be affected. In this thesis a comparison is made between two election-periods in Sweden, both having a ”populist right wing party” in parliament: 1991-1994 with “Ny demokrati” and 2010-2014 with “Sverigedemokraterna”. For each parliamentary term a TV-debate and two parliamentary debates revolving around immigration-policies is analyzed. A discourse analytical approach is used based on theories by Laclau & Mouffe in order to deconstruct and study formations and constructions within the discourses. Finally, the discursive formations are discussed in relation to perspectives on tolerance. It is highlighted that the discourse of 2010-2014 could be understood as both expressing more tolerant as well as less tolerant perspectives, than those articulated in the discourse of 1991-1994. While the articulations of “Sverigedemokraterna” was based on a more assimilatory, excluding perspective than those articulated by “Ny demokrati”, the other parties instead articulated more multicultural and pluralistic perspectives than their counterparts in the parliamentary term of 1991-1994.
