Metoder och arbetssätt för skrivmomentet i ämnet engelska : En studie av metoder och arbetssätt som högstadielärare uppfattar leder till måluppfyllelse

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to research which methods and ways of working some upper secondary school teachers look upon as increasing goal attainment when it comes to writing in English as a second language. The following questions are answered: Which are, according to the interviewed teachers, the most crucial elements that need teaching when it comes to successfully teaching pupils in writing in English as a second language? How do the interviewed teachers think teaching these crucial elements should be carried out? Which types of adaptations are most suitable for pupils who have difficulties attaining educational goals or show their ability to write in English.   Five teachers have been interviewed and the result has been analysed from sociocultural theory and sense of coherence, SOC. The result shows that the most common method is teaching genre. The interviewed teachers also say that vocabulary is the most important building bloc in order to be able to write in English and that it is important that pupils get to write a lot and that teachers present interesting and motivating topics to write about. The teachers in the study also say that the pupils need to know some grammar in order to compose a text in English. All the teachers in the study say that they teach grammar and most of them use the pupils’ own texts as a basis for grammar teaching and teach the grammar rules that their pupils seem not to master. Most of the teachers use example texts, model texts and matrices to make it easier for their pupils to develop their abilities in writing in English. Collaborative learning of different kinds is also commonly existing in their teaching. The study also confirms that most pupils in Swedish upper secondary school reach goal attainment when it comes to the subject of English and boys generally have somewhat larger difficulties than girls, especially when it comes to writing.
