Fysisk planering, en möjlighet för social hållbarhet? - En kvalitativ studie på den sociala hållbarheten i Rosengård

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to investigate if spatial planning is a opportunity for social sustainability in the district Rosengard in Malmo. Rosengard was included in the so called million-program, which was intended to solve the housing crisis. The results of this spatial planning made Rosengard, and many other areas included in this program, segregated areas with social problems. The questions that this study is based on is: What is the role of spatial planning regarding social sustainability in urban development? How are the social sustainability perspectives expressed in Rosengard, with respect to the planning and design of the city? How can urban development for social sustainability work with Rosengard in Malmo to become a more social sustainable neighborhood? This study is also based on two interviews with two specifically chosen people who have professional knowledge surrounding spatial and social planning. This due to lead to even more depth and help the study to answer the questions. These interviews are meant to supplement the documents used in the study. Together with theories of sustainable development, social development, "defensible space", social capital, and gentrification, the study could show that social capital plays a very large role in the spatial planning. With this, the theory of defensible space (which is about participation), determines the social capital. Despite this, none of this can be implemented if the sustainable development is not taken into account. The theory of gentrification is a possible solution to change the segregated area into a attractive district. Furthermore, this study reveals success stories which shows how a city can promote social sustainability in the context of spatial planning.
