”Det folk som dansar och sjunger” Reflektioner över traditionsöverföring i uyghurisk kultur

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to investigate how traditions are transmitted from one generation to the next in the Uyghur ethnic music tradition of current China. The research questions are: How does the transmitting of knowledge look like in the Uyghur tradition in an informal and in a formal context? Also how does the traditional music development look like and which role does the music have in the society today? In qualitative interviews I have searched for answers to these questions. The study has mastery and tradition as a central theme. The result shows several interesting themes concerning the strong role of the Uyghur traditional music in people’s lives today - both as carrier of historic events and as a moral and developmental force.
