Sammanfattning: Leadership have through previous research been shown to have a great influence on the quality within an organisation dependent on how it practices. The aim of this study was to examine how leaders in the Swedish public authority Migrationsverket works with quality and quality management. The aim was also to analyse how leadership can affect the quality work within the organisation. The hypothesis was that unit managers can improve the quality in a public authority with their leadership. Through a content analysis and interviews with eight units managers in the Swedish public authority Migrationsverket in 2016 we found some interesting results. We analysed the results with theories about autonomy and five elements of leadership, as well as organization theory. We compared it then to previous research. The main results were that the leaders felt they had great possibilities to affect and lead the work of quality in the units that they are in charge of. But the results also revealed a contrast to this as many of the leaders also felt limitations with the work of quality. Our results also reveal that the personal characteristics the leaders described themselves with indicate a highly supportive leadership style like the transformational leadership. The leaders in this study used their autonomy within the organisation to reach the goals for the organisation. To do this they used their autonomy to work with their employees to reach the goals and increase the quality in the unit.
