Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Umeå universitet/Sociologiska institutionen

Sammanfattning: The purpose of the study is to through a qualitative interview study, examining active leaders' beliefs about leadership and leadership styles and how they relate to various situations. This is to understand how their choices and customization of their leadership style is influenced by the leader's experience and knowledge as well as the qualities and skills that contribute to their approach against the situation. This has been done through a case study and by using hypothesis. Hypothesis were used in a way to try to identify the leaders’ view of leadership and to identify the qualities and the properties a leader may possess. The hypothesis are created from the authors theoretical understanding about the subject leadership, and therefore makes them theoretical anchored. The study also shows that it’s important for areas that are rather unexplored in leadership, that you’ve to go close to the object of study, and in this case to an personal level of the leader to be able to identify the personal traits. The results show that leadership is a complex and a difficult subject to study when it comes to personal properties. Through the analysis of the empirical data from the four respondents answers, the author have identified that key aspects for this adaption of leadership styles against different situations are experience, personality, personal values, awareness of the situation, prestigeless, open-minded and professionally taken decisions.
