Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Högskolan i Jönköping/JTH, Byggnadsteknik

Sammanfattning: Purpose: The aim of the study is to explain how the change in road design in Jönköping municipality affects public transport, emergency services and ambulance and to investigate which traffic calming measures best suited to the occupational groups. The study investigates how these occupational groups experience the traffic calming measures found in Jönköping today, how the municipality of Jönköping has changed the planning ideology in the last 20 years and which traffic calming measures that has the least impact on selected occupational groups. Method: The study includes both qualitative and quantitative methods. The questions are answered using literature studies, surveys and interviews. The surveys and interviews describes opinions and personal experiences and the literature provides information about the traffic calming measures used today. Findings: Jönköping municipality has long been at the forefront of development concerning the passability of public transport. Over the past 20 years priority has been shifted from passability to safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The work with separate bus lanes with traffic priority continues but other speed-reduction measures are also being introduced. These acts in an impeding way to public transport, emergency services and ambulance. The municipality of Jönköping still pursues straight bus lanes that increase passability and tries to avoid vertical obstacles. Traffic calming measures affect public transport, rescue services and ambulance in a negative way. Travel time for public transport and emergency services increase, driving comfort deteriorates and tasks are hampered. The study shows how the dialogue between Jönköping municipality, Jönköpings Länstrafik, emergency services and ambulance needs to progress to get a traffic environment that will satisfy all parties. There are a number of obstacles that have little to no impact on occupational groups specified. Edeva Acti Bump, Intelligent Flexible Hump and the road cushion are amongst those found to affect the occupational groups the least without jeopardizing road safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Implications: Jönköping municipality has been working actively to increase road safety without affecting the passability for public transport, emergency services and ambulance. Priority has shifted from passability to safety and more traffic calming measures have been introduced. The study shows that there is a need for a continued dialogue between Jönköping Municipality, Jönköpings Länstrafik, emergency services and the ambulance to achieve a traffic environment that does not compromise the occupational groups' duties. If the specified parties take part in the study results, change and improvement may occur, as there are several more suitable options available. Limitations: The study does not examine how traffic calming measures affect the vehicles, passenger's perceived comfort in bus transport or environmental impact or increased noise caused by braking and accelerating. Keywords: Traffic calming, speed bumps, speed humps, traffic calming measures, public transport, emergency vehicles, emergency, ambulance.
