Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to examine nursing home staffs experiences of different health promoting activities that are implemented in their work and how they view their own health. The main questions of this study were: how did staff experience discussion and work with health on their workplace, how did staff discuss the continuity of health activities, how did staff discuss responsibility for their own health and how did staff experience work with health activities among residents. Research told us to exercise more, social norms told us to exercise more, but what did the nursing home staff say themselves? This was a qualitative interview study made among seven nursing home staffs in two different retirement homes. The results of this study showed us that social norms may impact our health behaviors more than we thought. Some common excuses for not being healthy were lack of motivation and interest. Lack of continuity in health promoting activities was also a common excuse for not being healthy. When it came to elder care residents it was crucial to have motivating nursing home staff. According to this study the employees believed that they were responsible for their own health.
